Check out our interview with Ray William Roldan about his current single, “Wyatt Earp.”
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I feel it kind of speaks to current events as they are.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
Well its being done in a new studio, location and with Max Allen recording, arranging and mixing. (He also plays several instruments on the songs.) He’s younger than the cats I’ve worked with in the past and he brings a new feel to the work that inspires me.
What was the writing process for the song?
I’ve got a tattoo of Wyatt Earp on the inside of my left wrist and I was writing another song at the time on my guitar and looked down at my arm and it just came to me. It works like that with me, many things come to me when I’m struggling or doing something else. When I was making metal sculptures a few years back, many new song ideas would flood into my mind.
I’ve been starting a new chapter of my life over the past two years and have written over fifty new songs at the same time and have recorded on at least four separate projects.
I always carry a pad of paper with me in my truck ( I’m a contractor in my other life) and I record many ideas on my IPhone.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
It’s really about our state of political affairs and how I believe a good amount of our population is hoping for someone to come along and “Save them” or make things better for them”. I was really writing from a point of view that I perceive of a section of our populace. I believe that they’re point of view is very relevant but I’m not in agreement with the solutions that are being put forward. I believe we need to “police” ourselves first but I feel many folks are looking for another “Wyatt Earp” to come along and make things “right”.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I hope they see a real artist telling a real story! I hope to entertain, make ’em laugh a little, cry a little and think a little.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I think if they listen and feel where its coming from that they will get who I am, And I am an artist through and through. Aren’t we all, life is the canvass that we paint ourselves upon.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
I am at the present working on two separate CD’s with two totally unique producers and we will be doing several videos including one for this song.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
I’ve lived a long, hard and beautiful life and I have the soul of an artist. Everything I experience ,perceive and ponder upon is the motivation for my music, I’m very fortunate to be able to articulate what I see in song.
