Young Drastic dropped off a brand new single off of his “Popular Unpopular” project called “Wallflower Cat Can’t Dance). When we heard it, we had to sit him down for an interview to figure out how it came together.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
Probably because it had the most broad appeal out of all the songs on the album.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
In relation to the album, It plays a big part in the story within the album. Specifically, It plays a role within the forming of a relationship
What was the writing process for the song?
It’s hard to say. Once I heard the completed beat all the way through, the concept popped in my head. Then the lyrics quickly followed.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
It means a lot to me, just like all the songs on this album. But this song specifically displays my social anxiety and shyness in a story-telling manner.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Hopefully less awkward than the guy I portray in the song. It’ll definitely be a different type of vibe than the other songs I perform on stage. It’ll be one of my more energetic performances.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I don’t think so. I say that because this sounds very different compared to most of my past material. My discography as a whole is very eclectic I guess, as is this album.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Ideas for the video have been discussed with my go-to videographer, Taylor Trimnal, & I think a “Prom Night” approach might be used
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
My motivation has changed over the years and might continue to change. But at this moment I think it’s gaining true internal freedom. Then from true internal freedom, I can gain it physically with how I live and things like that.
