Why did you select this song as your current single?
When I take a look at society as a whole, I feel that there seems to be some sort of influence that causes all the aggressiveness. Be it psychological, societal or whatever. With “Puppenspieler” I want to unveil the attitude of those possible influences and how they limit us in being a more human society.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album?
The overall subject of the album is the feeling of being controlled by something or somebody else, be it mental illness, external factors or society as a whole. But I also encourage the listener to take his life into his own hands again and to cut those threads which pull him to and fro.
What was the writing process for the song?
The core melody came first, quickly followed by the rest of the instrumental. At some point, the thought of a puppeteer opening his show with that melody came to mind – the lyrics themselves fell quickly into place after that.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
For me personally, this song is a way to fight with the inner demon that we all have to struggle with from time to time. By calling him out and facing him, I have done the first step to overcome him.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
When I take on a role in a song, I take it in full – for this song, you would see a seemingly sophisticated theater director at first – who turns into a control maniac with a rage boiling inside him, waiting to break free. This is what you would see for this particular song.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I don´t think that one song alone can define any artists –you always have to look at the full picture, i.e. all the records of an artist, to understand him or her.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Not a full-fledged music video at this point. There is a lyric video online on my Youtube channel for this song.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
Motivations change, I guess. But my core motivation really is to get the listener to start thinking for him or herself. Make their own decisions. And maybe, just maybe, my music can make the difference in someone else´s life – just like it did in mine.
