Hackmonocut
Dark and feral songs full of irony and social criticism tell of love, murder, and failed politics.
After his debut „In The Land Of Basement Hobby Rooms“ 2013, Hackmonocut released his 2nd solo album „The Sum Of My Parts“ in August 2015.
Starting on March 26th in Pettenbach, Hackmonocut will present the new album live on stage with his new band and play as many shows as possible thoughout 2016.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I selected „The Ripper“ because I think the track is pretty catchy. I was talking to people who had listened to the whole album and most of them remembered „The Ripper“ and some even had an idea of using the track on one of the next „Tarantino“ or „True Detective“ soundtracks. So it was clear to me to use the song as a single.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
As the rest of the album „The Ripper“ is a very dark song. Love, schizophrenia and murder, that’s what the whole new album is about.
What was the writing process for the song?
I don’t remember exactly how the idea to the song came up, but I remember that „The Ripper“ is one of the songs that I created on the western guitar. I think that’s what explains the dark westen, country feeling of the track.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
“The Ripper“ is a murder ballad, a dark song about schizophrenia, unrequited love, and murder.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Imagine a David Lynch movie, or watch the video to the song.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
No, I don’t think so. This is just one piece. You gotta listen to the whole new album „ The Sum Of My Parts“ at least, to get to know Hackmonocut. There’s waltz noir in 3 quater time, straight forward post rock, and dark country like „The Ripper“.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Yes, I made a video to the song, the idea of the video was to capture the unrequited love story and the schizophrenia of the song as well.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
I love to create something, if it wasn’t music I guess I would try to paint pictures or try to make movies.
