Eldeem out of the UK brings us the “Coward Song.” This song is about a guy who needs to be honest with himself and the woman he thought he loved.
This song is amazingly written and performed and made us want to find out a little more about the song and man behind these lyrics. Check out our interview and make sure to press play.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
This song came from a very real place for me. A lot of my songs are my interpretations of what I observe or musings on the extreme of a real life situation. This is just a real story for me.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
I have tried to keep this all to one man’s story, he hasn’t done too well with love, but believes that he should keep trying and so he does just that.
What was the writing process for the song?
Sometimes I hear a melody in my head first, sometimes a progression or a chord that I sit and play with on my guitar or on the piano for a bit. Sometimes the words flow naturally out, sometimes I get a bit of the story clear and add to it with time. This came out all at once, chords and words although I tidied up the chord progression over time.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
It was tough to come to terms with the fact that I can be the guy in this song. I only really started to admit that this was me and not an imagined person this last time we recorded it. I needed that raw emotion to really put the song down right.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Honestly? I hate performing and do it very rarely. I do open mic nights as and when I am in the mood and have done this song a couple of times. People have described it as haunting. I think that people really connect with me when I perform live more so because when I step up the mic, it is really, genuinely 100% where I want to be. In that moment I really want to share with people.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I think that I have a lot more to give in terms of my diversity as a writer and artist. But you definitely get the real me.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
I use exciting new acting talent in my videos. I work with my good friend Leon (@_leon_g) who has a great eye for visuals and writes and performs too so it is a good fit as he respects the perspective of me as an artist having a story. This video tells the story through the guy’s eyes although the child in the video is real and not promised as in my situation.
The video will be out later this year when we have finished with the music being ready to put out.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
I really don’t have a choice with my music. It kind of spills out of me. I guess there is a part of me that can’t help but create music.
