Check out our amazing interview with Amanda Tinkler and find out the stores behind her new single, “Pretender.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
This was one of the records from my EP that I instantly saw a visual
story for in my head. I thought that people would assume the record
was me talking to an “Ex” but really it was the opposite of that! I was
talking to myself! I wanted to show that through the video! So when I
came up with the treatment for the video I wanted to make it intimate
and raw so that it really felt like that moment you realize you’re not
over somebody!
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
The EP takes you on a little bit of a rollercoaster really! It’s all in that
Stax 60s Vibe!
What was the writing process for the song?
I came up with the title of “Pretender” before I wrote it and really just
built it from there! I liked the concept of calling myself out on trying
to heal too quickly! So myself and Tony Dixon (he also produced the
record) sat in the room together and wrote it, it was pretty quick!
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
To me it’s about that moment you realize you’re really struggling with
a situation and have been sort of covering it over with a brave face!
But people have also said to me after hearing it that they connected
with it in an almost sassy way, like it was them talking to their Ex
lovers and it was their way of saying “Look what you’re
missing, There’s no way you can be over this”!!! I guess thats what I
love so much about Music, different people connect in different
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I think you can expect a very raw performance, no bells and whistles,
just honesty!!
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I hope so! Obviously Music is always subjective, but I think my sound
is distinctive enough that people know who I am as an artist no
matter which record they listen to!
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea
behind the video?
YES! The video is currently out on YouTube here is the link:
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
When I was 4 years old I sang on stage for the first time, I saw
people in the audience crying and I was thinking to myself, “Wow, I
can really make people become emotional when I sing” from that
day I haven’t wanted to do anything else, I just love that moment
when I can connect with an audience, whether it be live or on a
record! I always have the hope that the music can have an effect on
their day in some way for the better!
