Only Plain Girls for Matt B

MAtt BMatt B could be compared to Justin Bieber, Sam Smith, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ne-Yo, Adam Levine, Taeyang, Jason Derulo and John Legend. Check out this amazing singer Matt B’s new song “Plain Girl” which hit #1 on the RnB charts in Japan and find out why he wrote this song.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I think that every woman can relate to the everyday struggles of trying to fit into the societal norms of beauty. There is a very specific mold that women are expected to fit into in regards to body image and beauty, and this can sometimes be challenging for a woman’s self esteem and confidence. I wanted to create an anthem to empower women and let them know that nothing is more beautiful than being who you are naturally.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
‘Plain Girl’ set the tone for the overall feeling of my album ‘Love and War’. The album is primarily comprised of songs that touch on the different aspects of loving and appreciating a woman. ‘Plain Girl’, in particular, helped to convey the message of loving and appreciating a woman for who she is rather than what she looks like. In a way, this song is the centerpiece of the album.
What was the writing process for the song?
My team and I really worked hard on cleverly crafting the perfect song that touched on loving who you are. Our society harps so greatly on perfecting the physical appearance of our bodies. We are slaves to photo retouching and people telling us how big or small we need to be. This greatly applies to women, in particular. As a result, we began bouncing ideas off of one another for a strong melody line in combination with a beautiful set of lyrics. And the rest, as they say, is history.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The song lyrics are very meaningful to me because in my eyes, it is very important for women of all ages to be confident in their skin and not be afraid to be happy just being themselves. Too often do our personalities get lost in translation while trying to fit into the social norms of beauty. It is crucial to never lose sight of oneself and always know that true beauty stems from the soul, never from outward appearance.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I’m never one to judge my own performances; I like to let my fans decide that for me.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Perhaps in some ways. My music is a reflection of who I am, so I am sure that they may be able to render insight as to who I am as an artist from listening to ‘Plain Girl’. But, once again, that is a decision for my fans.
