Freddie Calls is a London based band that all members were born on the island of Malta. Tommy and Dan grew up as next door neighbors with brothers Matt and Nick living just down the road.
Through their early to mid-teens the guys were involved in various different bands till they finally noticed that their best fits were the people right in front of them. Growing up they were all there for each other when family problems arose and life’s confusions got a little bit too hard to handle, creating music together became the most natural thing and something they couldn’t do without.
On their arrival to London they all moved into a house together where music & songwriting had no end. Throughout the past couple of years they created the sound they always envisioned. After events like band break ups and having all their gear burnt down to the ground, it’s been quite a journey to the stage for Freddie Calls. Now they’re stronger than ever and ready to share their debut single ‘The Watcher’.
We had a chance to sit down with Freddie Calls after they submitted to our Audio Rockit completion to place unsigned artist’s music on our site. We simply got lost in the song, “Watcher” and honestly ended up listen to it 3 times in a row. In light of this, I had to reach out to them to place them. This band may have a quick rise to the top, be ready. Here is the interview, enjoy.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
Being our debut single and the first the public heard of us we thought it was the most appropriate choice which leaves a good indication and direction for upcoming singles.
How does this single relate to the rest of the EP?
For now, we’ve only released this single.
What was the writing process for the song?
Like all our songs we like to take our time and challenge everything we do. We spent a good couple of months on The Watcher and kept changing little bits here and there till the recording day.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
As a band we see The Watcher as a representation of our Muse, the energy and inspiration which keeps us together as a band and as friends. Though as individuals I’m sure each member has their own little twist and personal meaning to the song. We hope for listeners to do the same and make it their own.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
We bring a strong emotion and energy to each and every performance. Our music means the world to us and the only way we know how to do this is from the bottom of our hearts.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Being our first single we’ve only just started building our fan base and people have only just started familiarizing with our sound. We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response so far.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Yes we have filmed a video. Set in London, UK. We used a girl actress to represent our muse.. The story line begins with our individual stories with her. We all lose her to find her again on stage (final chorus), here the band comes together for the first time. This represents us coming together, stronger than ever and doing what we really love.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
Life! We like to bring a sad story hope and like giving an uplifting feeling with our songs. We try and touch raw human emotions in a universal way that we hope a lot of people can relate to.
