Why did you select this song as your current single?

I picked this song for my first single because I felt that it kind of captured the collective sound of the EP. Everything about it just seemed right to me, I thought it would be perfect to release as the single!

How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape ?

The song is a little different content wise than the rest of the songs, but I think that it captures the essence of all the songs. A lot of the song on the EP are about more serious topics, so Transparent Hands was a way to bring in some light, but also keep with the theme of the other songs. The songs about loving someone but feeling like you’re not a happy enough person for them.

What was the writing the process like?

This song originally started out as a poem that I wrote when I was bored sitting my my grade 10 science class. When I got home I figured out some chords on the piano and a melody. The song, how it is now, is almost the same song I wrote that day. I was having some problems coming up with a chorus that really punched, so I did a collabortation with my producer, Gavin Brown, and song writer, Karen Kosowski. We finished off the chorus in a couple hours!

What does this songs lyrics mean to you?

Lyrics are my favourite part of creating music. I love putting words together to try and create emotional stimulus for the listener, but you can only use a limited number of words! It can be a challenge sometimes, but I love it. The lyrics on Transparent Hands are particular special to me because they showcase the two sides of me; Happy and upbeat or sad.

What would it be like to see you perform this song in person?

When we perform this song its really fun, it’s a good song to dance along to! I like to move around and dance a little bit, the beat is nice and driving.

Could your fans summarize who you are by this song?

I think they could. It’s really nice to have a song thats a little more upbeat musically wise, but has lyrics that deeply relate to your life. Transparent Hands is that for me, it reminds me that I need to keep balance in my life. I love this song so much and it was my biggest hope that other people would feel the same way.

Is there a video planned or released?

We did a video for Transparent Hands last march! The idea behind the video was love is love. In the video my love interest is a girl, but you can’t tell what gender she is until the very end of the video. I wanted to show people that it shouldn’t matter who you love or who you’re with. The video takes place in 4 different locations, a school, a limo, a beach/forest, and the Toronto water filtration plant. The concept was that when I was with this person I changed into who I really am, but when I’m pretending to be someone else I look like everyone else. Doc Martens also were a big part of the video, they were featured in every scene!

What is your motivation behind your music?

I started out just writing music for myself, and I still do, but now I want to write to give people hope or something to look forward to. I’ve struggled a lot with some shitty internal things so I just wanna let people know that it’s totally ok, you don’t need to feel weird and out of place. Everyone else is going through stuff too, just remember that.
