Why did you select the song for your current single?
I felt like The Fall would be a song that would start a lot of conversation about relationships if put into the right place on the right platform. The meaning behind The Fall is that place between love and togetherness and hatred separation that we can go through during a break up especially when one or more of the parties is not living up to the expectation of the other.
How does the single relate to the rest of the album EP or mixtape?
The Fall is one part of a series of stories in the New Blaq City album. In essence I wanted to create a movie that you can listen to. Each song on the New Blaq City project is a small film so to speak that eventually opens up to a bigger story.
What was the writing process for this song?
The writing process for this song is a little different than most. What I like to do is I actually create the lyrical composition and musical composition at the exact same time. Usually will start out with a melody or some drums. I go in the booth and just say what’s in my heart. I feel like that is the truest nature of being honest to your artistry. I’m not sitting here writing lyrics on the page or having people right for me. I like to give my fans an opportunity to see what’s really going on in my soul.
What does the song lyrics mean to you?
I feel like I was paying attention for others to get an understanding of where most people can end up in the craziness of a bad relationship coming to an end. most of the time we’re usually caught up in our own stuff. We’re selfish creatures. We don’t see what’s really going on around us when it comes to affairs of the heart.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
For me, of course I’m going to tell you what’s going to be hot! But let’s be honest. You’d have to come out to a live show and see it for yourself. That way you could tell me what you think.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I don’t believe it could be possible to summarize any artist by 1 song. There are so many dimensions to me as an artist. In life your world constantly evolves around you changing your directions and perspectives. Who you are today is not the same person you will be tomorrow.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
I am currently creating the treatment for The Fall music video. I am looking to make something more artistic as opposed to a straight up and down story with this video. I love adding different dimensions when it comes to the visual presentation of my music.
What is your motivation behind your music?
The motivation behind my music is to teach people how to love. I think we put a lot of stock in we see in social media and television. We say, “that is what love is supposed to be”. A lot of the time we don’t realize its a fantasy. It’s a play. It is created to entertain us as opposed to show us how to do things the right way or how to conduct ourselves or react in certain situations that happen to us everyday. I feel like my music is here to teach. I feel like I’m here to help people through it.
