Emmy is a Pop/Alternative artist making my home in Nashville, Tennessee. She just released my debut EP. Emmy was raised and inspired by the small town of Stow, Ohio where she taught herself how to play acoustic guitar at age fifteen and piano at age five. She decided to move to Nashville to further my career in music
Emyy’s music styles is a mix of Adele, Alanis Morissette, Christina Perry and Lana Del Rey. The album itself was inspired by the lessons she learned and the strength she found over the past few years.
Check out her first single ” Stranger” and find out her reason behind releasing it as her first single. This is a great first single which showcase her vocal talents and superb writing skills that show her deep thought for every single lyric written on the paper and finally recorded in the studio and then perfromed in front of a pack crowed.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
“Stranger” is upbeat, sassy and straightforward! We all have strangers in our lives so I chose it as the single because it’s a song that everyone can relate too. “Stranger” is my debut single so I wanted to make a good first impression and give fans a taste of what I can do and the kind of songs they can expect from me in the future.
How does this single relate to the rest of the EP?
The 5 song EP has an overall theme of loss, letting go and moving on. I wrote the songs at a time when a needed to make a change and stop living in the past. “Rescue Yourself” is an emotional balled on the album about someone who was trying to stop me from doing that. “I Don’t Love Him” and “Unspoken” are songs that show the frustration and the truth about how letting go isn’t an easy process. “Stranger” is like the ultimate realization and silver lining that makes moving on worth it and for the best.
What was the writing process for the song?
First, I wrote down words that described how I was feeling and went from there. It started out as a sad song on the guitar but sadness wasn’t really what I was feeling so I sat down on the piano and the song just kind of rolled off my tongue. It was actually very eye opening and therapeutic for me.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
Every word in this song accurately describes the situation I was in. When I wrote the song I was trying to figure out what role this guy played in my life. He wasn’t a friend or a king or the love of my life. He was part of my past. He was a lesson that I had to learn. “Ain’t nothin but a stranger now”
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
You would see the sassy, angry side of me for sure. When I perform I go back to the way I felt when I wrote the song and pull from that same emotion
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Yes, although I do have a more sensitive side and a deeper layer that can be heard on the EP and in the future.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
The music video for “Stranger” has been released. Fashion model, Petey Wright starred as the stranger. It shows him interacting with me and another girl and leads up to us finding out his secret life and leaving him with nothing. There’s a lot of symbolism and imagery involving fire and gambling included in the video also.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
I love finding new ways to say ordinary things. There’s something about putting words in a song with a melody and rhymes that make people listen and understand them.Music has saved my life in so many ways and I hope I can reach other people in that way.
