Music: So Rewind by Narrow Plains

Narrow-Plains-003Narrow Plains are an acoustic-indie, trio based in London. Having exploded onto the London music scene, they have performed at prestigious venues such as the 02 Academy Islington, 100 Club, Barfly and Cavern Club in Liverpool. Recently, they released a self-produced, double A single, “So Rewind”/ “Keep You Anyway” that has just been picked as BBC Introducing South Track of the Day. They continue to write and perform a large number of original songs and have signed an album deal with Smart Indie Music. They hope to release their debut album in early summer 2015. Check out their single, “So Rewind” and find out the reason behind making this song their single.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
We had been playing So Rewind for a long time in our live shows and people seemed to be loving it. At that point the last thing that we’d released was our original EP. We weren’t quite ready to do the full album at that point but we wanted to get So Rewind recorded, so that’s what we did!
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
I think that So Rewind is a progression from where we were for our original EP Somewhere in Between. It brings in a few newer elements, like the samba beat at the end which we would probably never have thought to put in the EP.
What was the writing process for the song?
We wrote it in a slightly different way to the EP songs. They were originally written when we were a two piece band and changed when we became Narrow Plains. So Rewind was written from the ground up as a full band song, and I think it sounds quite different as a result.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The song is about remembering something that’s failed. It’s meant to be quite optimistic though because it’s about recalling the good times.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I think it’s probably our best song to dance to, so if you come and see us play it live you’d better be ready to move!
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Actually, probably not! I think to get who we are you need to listen to a few of our songs. Our songs have quite different vibes so you have to hear a few to get the full picture.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
We’ve all been playing music since we were about 12, and for most of that time we’ve been doing it together… so really it’s the most natural thing in the world for us. Whenever we go a couple of months without playing we all feel unhappy, so that’s probably our motivation… we’re dependent!
