Music: Self Inflicted Wound by JKJ – Pittsburgh, PA

JKJ - RARE NationARTIST COMMENT:
Why did you select this song as your current single?
The title track ‘Self Inflicted Wound’, was a track that meant a lot to me, it was a method of self reflection on a past situation that I had. I felt that not enough people admit their real feelings when ending a bad break up, and I wanted to show that I could.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
The single relates to the rest of the EP, because the entire project shows different emotions and sides of me, all of my music is me reflecting, and all of the inner battles/different emotions I deal with
What was the writing process for the song?
I was up late with friends and secluded myself, until about 7 am when I wrote ‘Self Inflicted Wound.’ I even roughly recorded it on my macbook first, to perfect the feel I wanted for it.
What do this song’s lyrics mean to you?
The lyrics mean a lot to me because it’s still a bit of a touchy subject. It was almost therapeutic for me to write this song, because I figured out a lot of my own issues with the situation, and was able to own up to a lot, while also in a sense being honest and apologetic enough to pour my heart out about the situation
What would it be like to see you performing this song in person?
I feel as though it’d be a very heartfelt performance, Something that would capture the audience’s attention and really get them to listen, probably would hit home for a lot of folks because we don’t always know how to deal with the pain and hurt we inflict on ourselves just by always harping on a situation or taking blame for everything.
Could your fan summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I feel like fans could start to understand me more as a person from this song more than anything. I opened up a lot on this one about my personal life, and I feel like it shows my character and honesty, along with my ability to admit my faults
Is there a video planned?
Yes, I’m actually working with two others on the concept of the video, and would like to take the proper time to perfect it because the song means a lot to me, so the video has to be perfect for the track.
What is your motivation behind your music?
Reality is my motivation. I feel like not enough real life is exposed in music anymore because the artists themselves don’t write a lot of their lyrics. Emotion driven music to me, is the best and most inspiring way to make music.
