Why did you select this song as your current single?
My first release, entitled “Released” was very much a metaphor for being, living & speaking my truth. The song is about my internal struggle with that & the fact that I produced, wrote & recorded the entire track myself was very symbolic for me. It’s taken 4 years for me to finally release a track that I felt was a genuine expression of myself so releasing this track (thu “Freeing Myself”) was a way to get over the initial hump (or fear I might say), allowing the work to follow the opportunity to really introduce myself to the world.
Tell us how this single relates to the rest of the EP?
As I said this single is a true expression of myself like the rest of the songs on the upcoming EP “In The Flesh”. It give the world and idea of how my mind works artistically but this particular track is a little different than the rest of the songs on the EP. It’s merely the tip of the iceberg & the tracks to come are much more upbeat!
What was the writing process for the song?
I wrote this track a little differently than I usually write. I had just purchased my first recording software program for my home studio & through experimenting with different sounds just trying to learn how to use the program I realized I was actually creating a song that I liked & was immediately inspired to start writing to it. So in the natural flow of things, I came up with melody, the hook, the lyrics & so fourth & within a few hours I had my very first self-produced track completed!
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Since this song is more electronic I usually sing it with a backtrack to get the full effect, sometimes with a drummer. Otherwise it’s sung in a more broken down acoustic version, which is really pretty with an accompanying piano & backup vocalist.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
I do have a really cool idea for the video where I am being chained up & held hostage (but I don’t wanna give too much away) I think fans will really love & also give the world another glimpse at some more of my creative abilities. I found the perfect location to shoot so right now it’s a matter of finding the right team to make it all happen.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
The core motivation behind all of my music comes from that magical place where all creativity comes from to which I am so utterly connected & driven by each day of my life. I have an impenetrable relationship with that thing that feeds me all of the art that the world knows to be mine. I call that thing “God”, you may call it something else but it’s always been there to feed me a beautiful song when I ask it to thus allowing me to be my beautiful self. 🙂
