In the last 25 years many will agree that Nirvana and N.W.A has been some of the most influential in their respective field of music which is Grunge Rock and Gangsta Rap.  That influence, will be tested again as they are two of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 16 nominees for the Class of 2014. Other nominees represent hip-hop, the blues, prog rock, theatrical rock and MTV rock.
Many of the nominees have been here before and have left without being inducted through the previous process of using artists, historians and music industry insiders only. But with the added votes of the fans these fortune may change for many. Fans vote for what made them feel a part of something big while the other vote for reason I don’t know. From now until December 10th, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they’d like to see inducted.
If you are a new comer to the Rock n Roll Hall of fame here is a quick lesson. Bands and artists become eligible 25 years after the commercial release of their first album or single. This means that those on the ballot had to be active in 1988 or earlier.
This is the first year that Nirvana had a chance to be eligible and made it to the ballot the first time. Many of Nirvana fans might be screaming Cobain is back very soon. The Rock and Roll President was very thrilled about the list and had this to say. “I think it’s remarkable in that there are so many first-time nominees,” Harris said in a telephone interview. “It’s remarkably diverse in the type of bands that are on it. In some ways, it’s a balance between the populist bands and some of the ‘musicians’ musicians.’ ”
Some of the notable bands and artist that have been nominated include LL Cool J, Kiss, Cat Stevens and the replacements. To get a full list make sure to check out sites like Rollingstone.com and place your vote.
