Check out our great interview with rising star Yemimah Kwaje as we discuss her current single and what she has planned for the future.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I chose this song as my current single because this is one of my newest songs, and I always enjoy my newest music it always revives me.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
This single does definitely relate to the rest of my current mix tape because it has this world beat/ ethnic pop sound to it, and what I have noticed is that with a lot of my music it has pop, r&b and dance within the beat but what ties them together is the touch of ethnic rhythm, or world beat incorporated within, and not just in the beat it can be heard in the sound of the lyrics as well.
What was the writing process for the song?
I find the writing process came very natural to me, I just heard the beat and started kind of dancing and then I started singing to myself, and bam I wrote the lyrics down.. I was like wow I love this song.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The lyrics are actually pretty emotional to me, I notice a lot of the time when I write music the words have to do with something that has happened to me, such as a relationship I have gone thru with a loved one or a friend, but this song is just how I felt towards a significant other at the time.
What would it be like to see you perform this song?
To see me performing this song, well there would be a lot of jumping and dancing. This song was one of my favorite songs to perform this summer.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I believe my fans get a big scope into how I am as an artist thru this song, because it is a great mixture of a lot of the styles of music I create and perform. The cool aspect with this song is that when you hear my lyrics and feel the song going from either really upbeat or to slow tempo you can feel a few of my styles which in a way gives you insight into what my other songs might sound like.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
There is a video for this song that has been released; it features my friend rapping in it. The idea behind the video was just I wanted to bring out a lot of colour and dancing I’m really inspired by beyonce and Shakira which kind of helped me during certain scenes in the music video.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
The motivation behind my music is to have people really connect with one another thru all the different sounds and styles I put into it. I want people to listen to my music and feel whatever it is I am pouring in the song, whether that be upbeat get up and dance, or a little heart break. I just want people to connect and feel me.
