Music: Love Proof by Aoede – San Francisco, CA

Aoede Jeff FasanoA brilliantly inventive work combining narration, story, colorful offbeat characters and music intended for young adult audiences, What Are Dreams Made Of? (Sep 2013) finds Aoede exploring realms of darkness and light in the wake of a bad dream (a “nyxmare”) in which she is continually haunted by a white witch and children go missing.
As the fascinating tale full of unexpected twists and turns evolves, Aoede has to explore both overland and underworld, where she meets magical characters, including fairies, goblins and dream gods to figure out what her dream means. While Is Love A Fairy Tale? found its sizeable audience with a younger crowd, What Are Dreams Made Of? and its edgier themes are aimed at more mature tweens and teens. Fans of that age, who have made Harry Potter, the “Twilight” series and “The Hunger Games” pop culture phenomena, will enjoy the compelling storyline and infectious songs – as well as Aoede’s exploration of the deeper mysteries of life.
Check out this great interview we did with Aoede about her single, “Love Proof”
Why did you select this song as your current single?
Aoede’s “Love Proof” is a sweet, enchanting, playful ukulele-based quirky song. Ingrid Michaelson meets Regina Spektor and Feist. The song has received very positive feedback from fans and accolades from the music industry (e.g., Indie Music Channel, Artists in Music Awards). I was told it is very commercial sounding, very licenseable, fresh and quirky.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album?
Skeletons of the Muse, my 2012 release, embodies four main themes: Tales of Love, Reflections, Skeletons and Lights. The Tales of Love include falling in/for love, love on the rocks and lamenting lost love. Love Proof is a playful, heartfelt tale about falling in love with love.
What was the writing process for the song?
Like most of my songs, I find my inspiration for my music and lyrics through my instruments. In this case, my ukulele inspired the feel and melody for Love Proof, and the lyric came to me about what it feels like to be on love’s roller coaster.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
At some point, after all the ups and downs, we might wonder whether we were meant to love at all, or whether somehow we are impervious to our heart’s desires. Or maybe we’re just fooling ourselves to save our hearts from all the ache of being on the roller coaster… when all is said and done, maybe I am not really “love proof at all.”
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song
You most likely would see me performing it acoustically with me on ukulele and my husband Dave on Bass, and sometimes with my animated video for Love Proof behind us! You would be clapping during the breakdown and maybe lending your voice for the background “Ohs”!
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?

Yes! It is quirky, playful, honest and unique, bright and believable and sweet. I think it represents and embodies my Aoede brand very well!
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Yes from 2011. I created a simple animated video for a contest to pitch the winning song to an advertiser-in this case to Apple. The song and video were winners. In the video, there are a series of scenes where Aoede is singing and interacting with various characters such as a robot and an alien. During the chorus, you see characters pair up and Aoede is alone wondering if she is Love Proof.. see:
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
The desire to inspire, share, express and connect with others. The drive to make my dreams realities. The need to push the envelope, try things outside my comfort zone, and grow as an artist. I view everything I do as Art. It just takes different forms. Music is my life-line; I can’t stop creating. For example, I have been writing musical stories for tweens over the past few years that combine narration, voice-overs, music and story. The whole process-from the seeds to the finished CD-the vision, the script writing, the casting, all the collaboration, the recording-everything is just another expression of me as an artist. I am now adapting my last award-winning musical story: What Are Dreams Made Of? (Sep 2013) into a Children’s musical theater production-definitely pushing the envelope for me as a Singer-Songwriter and Recording Artist!
