Artist Interview: Life After Lie/Amelia Earhart by The Show – Pittsburgh, PA

theshowa (1)Check out our brand new interview with The Show and check out their previous interview we did with them in our video section. ArtistATWork: The Show
Why did you select this song as your current single?
We opted to do a Double-A-Side single release of “LIE AFTER LIE/AMELIA EARHART” since both have been used in cable television shows in the past year… the band felt that both tunes sound perfect for summer.  –Brandon  Mitchell
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
Our EP, “…until you know what it’s like to stand where there is no ground.” was recorded in 2013, and released last year, and was comprised of songs that were a family together rather than just selecting our “best” or “most commercially viable” songs. We wanted to document the transitional period in The Show rather than hide it like many artists do. We thought it would be vital to our history to release the songs that were formed during the years we spent developing our song. It bridges the gap between our first full length (2009’s Here’s To Your Jigsaw) and our next full that will be out in 2016. –Johnny Saint-Lethal
What was the writing process for the song?
BRANDON:      Amelia Earhart was written after a dream I had about a hurricane… and strong winds… and I’m not sure how it transitioned into what it is…
JOHNNY:          I just remember being propped up on our kitchen counter with acoustic guitars and loving it as soon as Bran played it for me and coming up with the folky riff. And Lie after Lie was written one night out of no where… most of my songs are more like… well, I’m not really a songwriter… I’m more of a Song-catcher… it’s like a song is in the air… and I kind of catch it in that rare moment it exists and I’m just the messenger.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The lyrics mean something to us… and they’ll mean something different to us next year… and they mean something to our fans… and so out of respect we don’t discuss our lyrical content, usually… it ruins it for some people…. -Johnny
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Our band, in person, is never the same as the records. We’re a bit different every night. We vary the arrangements… slightly… not like Dylan who completely reinvents and shapes his songs… but our songs have a different, let’s say, energy live… a different tone… a different personality depending on what we’re going through and what the crowd’s like… But we never play songs if we don’t feel like playing them… it would be disingenuous… so any time you see us… we’re playing songs that we MEAN that night… with sincerity.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Our fans couldn’t really summarize who we are as an artist by any of our songs… everyone seems to have a different favorite… but everyone sings along to all of them… I think that, however, these songs summarize who the band was from about 2010-2014… if any songs would sum up that time period, it’s them.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
We will be filming a video for both of them… and they’ll actually be live videos, to be recorded at Mr. Smalls July 10 and 11.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
Our music is born out of moments that we are either struggling with, or moments that we want to live on forever…
