Inspired to write it after watching the tv show, Walking Dead Mary Jennings brings you, “Home.” check out this great interview we did with here about this great new song.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I will be releasing the majority of the songs as singles until the album comes out. I think it is important to give each song it’s deserved spotlight. The song “Home” was the first one that I worked on in this series. It felt right for it to be the first one released.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
Each song that will be on the upcoming album has a different theme and story. However, the style of production connects them all.
What was the writing process for the song?
This song came to me in the middle of the night. I was watching a lot of “Walking Dead” during that time and, although the show is about zombies, it really focuses human survival during an apocalypse. I knew I wanted to right a song based on the concept of “home”. Is home a place? A person? And in the middle of the night, after being asleep for several hours, I woke up with “where we fall but get back up again we can call that home.” I went into the den and sat down with my loop pedal and wrote the rest of it almost in it’s entirety right then.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The lyrics are all about what “home” really is. For me, “home” is a state of mind. It’s not about a place or things. It’s not even about people. It’s your thoughts, your feelings, and your self awareness. Wherever you can survive, that is home.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
If I am alone, it is me, a keyboard and my loop pedal. I love playing with a band though and it always fills it out to have drums and bass. 🙂
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
They would certainly be able to summarize part of me! Stylistically yes they could but in terms of content, only part. One would have to listen to all of the songs to get a really thorough summary of who I am as an artist. Each song is another part of me.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
I do have every intention of doing a video for this song but it is in the beginning stages so we are still defining the full concept.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
My motivation is to tell stories. I find all aspects of life so interesting and I love collecting ideas from it. For me, stories come to life when put to music. If I can help other people put words and music to their thoughts, feelings, and stories, then I have done my job.
