Music: Good at Losing by Permanent Ability – Los Angeles, CA

Permanent Ability Album CoverPermanent Ability is a band whose sound and style are incomparable to the dime-a-dozen and clichéd acts found in Los Angeles. Backed by legendary producer Jim Wirt and 5 first round ballot Grammy Nominations, Permanent Ability’s name has become synonymous with the revival and new direction of the funk-rock genre.
Brian Lanese launched the band in 2008. He is a three time Emmy Award Winner and recent Grammy Nominee. Lanese sings / writes / and produces all the music and lyrics for the band. His bloodline notes a relation to Mark Twain and his writing mirrors that of his famous ancestor.
Permanent Ability is a commercial ready band, proven by notable and respectable corporations such as FOX, NFL Network, Scion, and Rockstar Games (Rockband) using songs from their musical catalogue for licensing and commercial promotion. In addition, the band earned over 47,000+ hits as the most requested webcast performed on Flashrock.com.
Dedicated to their art, Permanent Ability isn’t interested in quick notoriety. The band relies heavily on their fans as well as true media interest, and opposes pay-to-play opportunities. Their collection of headlining gigs includes venues such as the House of Blues Los Angeles, The Viper Room, The Roxy, and the Whisky A Go Go.
With east-coast roots, Permanent Ability has established their brand of funk-rock music within the Los Angeles scene. The band is launching a full media junket to ensure their distinctive sound, and viable industry brand, are made available to qualified press outlets. Their music is available on Pandora Internet Radio, iTunes, Amazon, & CD Baby.
Their forthcoming full length record (due out later this year) features Serj Tankian’s bassist Mario Pagliarulo of The F.C.C. Band. Here is their NEW SINGLES “Hey Now” & “Good At Losing.”
Check out this great interview about focus on their single “ Good At losing”.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
This single summarizes the sound and the current writing direction I am moving towards. It is more mature and engaging than our previous material yet still funky and energetic.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album?
It proves we are staying true to our roots, but this record has more engaging tracks with plenty of diversity. I took a less is more approach with this record and had more control of the final outcome of it than previously.
What was the writing process for the song?
Since I (frontman/founder Brian Lanese) writes all the parts including the instrumentals I created this song using Garage Band with various loops and instruments. From there I give the demo to the band and we define and polish it.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
Since the lyrics have a personal meaning to me…i don’t like to convey that to the audience because I want to keep it universal and personal to each listener.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Explosive and menacing with energy…the entire show.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Definitely. The funk rock genre is still flourishing in the music hearts of music fans.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
The video is planned but no concept has been developed yet until we find the right producer.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
To achieve recognition on the highest creative level which every artist craves always…aspiration is inspiration. www.PermanentAbility.com Thanks for the opportunity.
