Check out brand new music from iMoveiLive submit artist Falcon Down called “Flashlight”
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I feel that Flashlight, the title track off the Latest twin EP release was the natural single. The song has a different rhythm to the rest of the tracks and I personally like the message and flow of the lyrics in this song.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
I recently released a twin set of EP’s that are the B sides to support the debut album. The EP’s Primer & Charcoal both have their own colour. The song Flashlight is off Primer and the EP is much lighter and more delicate in tone than its counterpart Charcoal. Flashlight sits well with 1st Date to Love and Buoyancy. These first 3 songs show another side of my character and are less driven than those on Charcoal.
What was the writing process for the song?
I write all of my songs in isolation, I like to switch off from all other stimuli during the writing process. I regularly flit between writing melodies, vocals or lyrics depending on song. Flashlight came about as I was playing around with different keys for some chords ideas I had. I’d all ready written the line “The batteries in my torch have failed” I stuck the capo on the fourth fret and pretty much the song came together in like 20 minutes or so. I like to do an initial rough record wether it be on the camera phone or computer than listen back before making any edits. The main edit for Flashlight was to the final verse. This is different from the initial released video and to the final track. I felt the need to remove and rework the final verse. I am happy with the finished version.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
Most of my songs are personal reflections on the world as I see it. I personally don’t feel the need to surround myself with lots of friends. Im quite a confident and self assured person & I like to reflect on my lot. like most people have a few chips around the edges & I often feel like I need a recharge. I am fully aware of the ever growing consumer demand for power and believe that we will face power cuts again unless we kerb our consumption, I am referring to both electricity and I suppose consumerism within the songs message.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Very intimate and real. Everything I’m doing now is stripped back in a bid to reconnect with the origins of the track.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
No I don’t think so. I am a songwriter and enjoy writing cross genres, I hope to never be summarized by a single song. What they will get and recognize is my distinct vocal.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
I released an acoustic take of this song before the official release date and its available on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn5XN2bBssI
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
For me it has always been about the songwriting. I know who I am as a musician and sum it up as follows. Im a songwriter, lyricist, guitarist and vocalist in that order. I still believe that I can write music that can create a mood or mean something to someone else. All of my songs mean something to me and music is my release. I have no interest in churning out tracks for the sake of it, instead I see my work as more of a journey making some small insights here and there and hopefully one day I will write something that captures the attention of lots of people.
Of course I want to build a fan base and hope to reach out to lots of potential new fans by continuing to write music in my authentic style.
I feel modern day artists and producers have added so much production that songs have lost their meaning. Don’t get me wrong they sound great but I find myself asking where is the original penned track. I don’t feel that I can hear that in a lot of what I see, mass produced commercially viable music has it’s place but it’s not for me. I will continue to create music as I see it, without dilution or polish. I don’t feel the need to add this to what I’m trying to say.
