Check out new music from this young talent called ” End of the Lonely Road”.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
My current single, “End of the Lonely Road” integrates a gospel-choir intro and folk phrases (“poor wayfaring stranger”) to ground it in a roots-folk language. I felt as though this song struck a chord that would resonate with fans of roots-pop, in that Mumford and Sons vein, and toe the line of that top 40 friendly rousing anthem and still remain true to my more laid-back live show personality.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
“End of the Lonely Road” was written as one of the last tracks part of a cross-Canadian songwriting project. It sums up the themes of the whole project, thoughts of an artist’s life journeying for one’s craft, of missing home, and of returning back home to one’s loved ones.
What was the writing process for the song?
As I was co-writing with an artist from each province, I connected with Adaline from British Columbia to discuss how we could work together. A friend of a friend, she has written songs featured on Grey’s Anatomy and other TV shows and films, really slick and chill electro pop songs. She and I both grew up in a church setting, so we included a gospel feel into the language, as well as a soaring chorus to move the song along. The producer, Rob Szabo, and I kicked up the tempo and made it fly with a fun guitar hook and background vocals.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The lyrics tell a story of the lonely protagonist, journey through “snow and dust” and lonely towns, gone for days and days, one his way home to his loved one at the “end of the lonely road.” The story is not complex, and easily relatable either as an artist, or any other person traveling and happy to be returning to their love and home.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I would be singing lead vocals, accompanied by an acoustic guitarist and background singer, an upright bass player, and clapping with the audience. Lots of fun, and some finger snaps thrown in.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
This song summarizes my current story as an emerging roots-pop artist by hearing this song, both for the themes of the lyrics, style of production, and vocal delivery.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
There are several “take-away” live acoustic sessions of this song in a NYC cab, on my roof, near the Hudson River, and live in The Bitter End. Because the song relates to touring and coming home, we wanted to shoot live acoustic-style videos of this travel and return. Many more live and music-video style visuals are underway for songs on the album.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
I am motivated by music that is acoustic and personal, to tell a story that is folky and with universal themes. Through my music, I want to tell stories that are positive, and create music in studio and live that everyone can appreciate on some level.
