Artist Interview: Coasts by Pleasantry – Singapore

Pleasantry2Pleasantry is an indie-rock band from Singapore. Recently, they performed at Canadian Music Week, and it was their first ever international gig. Right  after their CMW performance, they had a short US tour. According to them “It was such a fantastic experience to travel and perform as a band. We also just released a split EP with San Francisco band, Starry Eyed Cadet. Next up, we’ll be stopping by London and we can’t wait to hit the road again!”
Check out this great interview about their current single, “Coasts.”
Why did you select this song as your current single?
We recently released a split EP with San-Franciscan band Starry Eyed Cadet and this song is our new single, which we wrote specifically for our recent North America tour.
How does this single relate to the rest of the album, EP or mix-tape?
It’s a first taste of our new sound and it’s also the first song that our new member Haziq is creatively involved in.
What was the writing process for the song?
It was quite a free and organic process. We wrote the song during one of our free jam sessions in a new space we had at that time.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
It’s a song about having new experiences and not being afraid to try and see new things.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I would say it gets really loud and epic at the end but also pretty emotional.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
It’s a good representation of our ‘current’ sound. But we do have quite a few folky tunes in our ‘Synapses’ album.
Is there a video planned or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
We don’t have a video for this single just yet but we’d love to come up with one in the coming months.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
Mostly the things we experience in our everyday life. The celebrations, heartbreaks and special moments we share.
