Kristofer Lee Scott is a Canadian musician born and raised in the small Kootenay town, Creston, British Columbia. In 2009 and at the age of 17 this coal miners son moved to Kelowna, British Columbia to pursue music and education. As a drummer, Kristofer had no problem finding musicians to play with and within his first year of living in Kelowna, Kristofer would meet up with guitarist/vocalist Jeff Fero and bass player Harrison Crerar to form the band Live On Brighton. The next few years would find Live On Brighton touring the country, playing shows from Nanaimo B.C to Charlottetown P.E.I and everywhere in between. After moving to Toronto for a year in 2012 and putting countless kilometers on the road, Live On Brighton decided to take a break. In the next two years, Kristofer would move back to Kelowna to complete his Education Degree and during this time he would craft his own voice as a solo performer while playing coffee shops and open mics. Kristofer combines the rhythmic sensibility that comes from years of playing music as a drummer with an eclectic range of influences to create a unique acoustic pop sound. Kristofer is now establishing himself as a solo singer/songwriter in Vancouver, B.C. In February 2015, Kristofer Lee Scott released his Debut E.P “Who am I to You?” available for free download @https://kristoferleescott.bandcamp.com/releases

Why did you select this song as your current single?
I chose Betting It All to be the single off of my E.P because it is an upbeat, confident song that reflects where I am as an artist releasing my debut E.P. Furthermore, I think Betting It All communicates who I am stylistically as an artist. I believe that my rhythmic sensibility, finger picking guitar playing, lyrical phrasing and personality all come together in this song which makes it the perfection introduction to me as an artist.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
As both the single and first song on my debut E.P “Who Am I To You?” I believe that Betting it All defines this E.P as a confident step forward for me. Each song on this E.P showcases a different side of my playing in the hopes of communicating who I am as an artist as best as I can in only four songs. Betting It All really makes a statement of growth and forward progression in that attempt to define myself as a musician/artist.
What was the writing process for the song?
I wrote this song in a transitional period in my life. I think that all the feelings, anxieties and doubts that I was feeling during that transitional time were really cast aside when I decided to just keep moving forward and to keep work hard at trying to attain what I want in life. That is probably where the inspiration for this song came from and after I wrote the chorus of this song the rest just made sense and fell in line pretty effortlessly.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The lyrics in this song are mainly about trying to find love but for me they have a broader meaning that nothing is completely certain in life and that all we can do is keep pushing ourselves and putting ourselves out there all the time trying to find what we love and trying to find what makes us content.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I perform with a looper pedal but for this song I strip it down and play it with just an acoustic guitar and vocals. One thing I try to achieve while performing is a really genuine performance. I try to connect with the crowd and really communicate who I am so that my music comes across really genuine. I think that this genuine quality in my performance in combination with the stripped down version of the song with no drums, bass or piano really emphasizes the message of the song which I wrote about before.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
For sure. I think there is a certain depth to this song that is apparent in all my music which comes from me trying to write very honest, genuine music. My music is within the acoustic/pop genre and I think that is clear in this song. Furthermore as I mentioned earlier, stylistically this song communicates who I am as a musician.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
No
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
To be honest, lately I am thinking it may be genetic disposition. I can’t help but want to practice music all the time, I have a creative itch and a lot to say which is satisfied by writing songs and I connect very deeply on an emotional level with music. The more I play and listen to music, the more I question whether I have any say in the matter. I play music because it makes me feel good and I share my music because it makes me feel good.
