Check out this great interview we did with them after winning one of Musicclout.com contest.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
We chose 80 Acres because it really reflects the heart and soul of Tornado Rose. It’s about a subject matter we think everyone can relate to, about connecting to your roots, about a place that will always be home. Time is the true test of a song; even though it was one of our first writing experiences together, we still play it at every show and it never gets old.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
80 Acres is really the anchor of Dust in my Shadow EP. It was the first song we ever wrote together as a band and writing together, sharing that experience, helped inspire the rest of the songs. 80 Acres is the beginning of the story; the Genesis.
What was the writing process for the song?
Receive download, basically. Driving though the Flint Hills of Kansas, the words and melody floated down the stream of the collective unconscious and we just plucked it out. You catch the fish, you don’t create the fish, you dig? The question isn’t ‘what was the writing process?’ but rather ‘where did the song come from?’; who knows, right? From nothing, something- creation. It’s magic.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
It means ‘what is your soul worth?’ Why do we ask for signs when we don’t listen anyway? How we only, ever, seem to have just enough energy to keep things as they are, don’t rock the boat, don’t be led astray.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Emotional. I get emotional on this one! Peace with one’s past means hope for the future. I would hope you’d have a great time watching us play, I love to sing and perform and I’m so lucky to get to do it with three of the greatest, nicest, most awesome dudes I know.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Sure! This is the fan favorite. I’m still getting used to girls singing along with me; I mean, do I try to blend in with them? Harmonize? Sing over them? I’ll figure it out, but it is a little strange. Plus, if they learn the words that means I gotta get em right everytime.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
We just finished shooting all the footage for the video and it is currently undergoing the editing process. The idea is Faustian; about falling down a rabbit hole and selling your soul to stay in it. It’s pretty wild. And hey, it has a unicorn in it, so there’s that.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
The only motivation is that we can’t not do it. We love making music. If we were the last people on earth, we’d still make music. If the ship was going down, we’d be making music. And it is, right? Sun go boom. Sometime! If this was our last day on earth, we’d be making music. We do it because we’d rather do it than anything else in the world.
