Check out this great interview we did with musicsubmit contest winner, Meresha about her single, “New Revolution.”

Why did you select this song as your current single?
“New Revolution” is my current single.  It’s played on Pop Radio across the US.  I’ve been the #1 Indie artist in the radio charts for 1 month.  While I love all the songs on the EP, “New Revolution” stood out as an up-tempo tune that people seemed to really relate to.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
It is the most dance oriented on the EP, which is also called “New Revolution”.  “Lemonade City” is more dreamy taking us into a different world.  “You” is my first love song, while “August” reminisces about a great summer.
What was the writing process for the song?
It took me over a year to write it.  The original version was called “Acid Bass” which I also put out.  It had a lot more in it including a rap. The “New Revolution” version you hear today reduced the song to its core.  I think it is more powerful because of that.
What does this songs lyric mean to you?
We are experiencing “New Revolutions” everywhere.  For me, it is trying to get to the top in music as in Indie.  For others it is eating better or getting into shape.  For yet others it is having a new awareness about the environment and doing something to save it.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I’ll be performing Saturday and will post a video of the song live.  My band includes me on vocals, Leilani on guitar, Luke on drums and Cole on Keys.  The live version is more rock than the recorded version, which is more electronic.  We also will have some dancers and a flash mob for that song (don’t tell anyone).
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
To some extent.  It is a song which I composed and recorded myself, like all my other music to date.  It is more electronic and poppy, while being a bit eclectic.  That’s a pretty good definition of the EP, and where I am this year.  Next year, you might here more live instruments in my music.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
The video was filmed in the Wynwood arts district of Miami on a site with a lot of graffiti.  It’s a celebration of a New Revolution including bringing back the past, when we had real musicians.  David Rousseau directed the video.  He’s a 5 time MTV VMA nominee who has a great talent in visualizing music.  Hope you like the result!
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
I’m motivated by many things.  By nature.  By other things I hear.  By my travels.  By things I experience.  All that gets funneled in to what I hope you find high quality music.
