Formed late 2013 in the Rio Grande Valley, Lonescar set out with the intention to make crushing metal music without boundaries. After putting in the work and playing numerous shows across south Texas, the band signed with Rock Angels Management in 2014 and shortly after began working on their first EP, Bloodluck at Sound of Rain Studios (Edinburg, TX) with producer Charlie Vela. Released in 2015, the groove and thrash influenced sound delivered by Bloodluck quickly won over fans and saw the band setting the foundation for a new wave of heavy metal. Performing alongside pro international touring acts such as Sepultura, Whitechapel, Darkest Hour, Havok, At All Cost, Extinction A.D., Black Fast, and more has primed Lonescar to deliver a vicious live performance that’ll get crowds moving.
Two years after their debut release, Lonescar are now preparing to unleash a new EP, rightfully titled More Chingon Than Before. Recorded at Widowmaker Studios (McAllen, TX) with Joshua Lopez, “More Chingon Than Before” takes the band’s developing sound and pushes it to new limits.
Check out our interview with @lonescar about their new single.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
Michael: It was the first song written by the newest incarnation of Lonescar, with a little input from all the members. It starts off slow and ominous until it picks up speed and heaviness like the heavy metal steamroller it is. It was a great way to say, “This is what we are made of, so get ready!”
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
Mike: It stands out in a way, but then again, I think each track on More Chingon Than Before is unique. They all bring something to the table, and this one is definitely the track that brings the groove.
Brian We put it in the middle because we felt the middle of the album needed a slow and heavy jam that was easy to recognize and catch on too. The general theme of the album is resurrection and this song definitely plays on to that
What was the writing process for the song?
Mike: Our old guitarist Joe composed the bulk of the guitars for this one, so when we got to hear it, it was more so a matter of stitching together the whole thing before fine tuning it.
Jc: . I try and stay out of the way till its time to put drums to it then just jamm the song a bunch till I know what fits perfectly and then just obsess over the sing till all the details work themselves out.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
Brian: I write the lyrics so they must mean something to me haha I love this song and what I talk about and hope my words help someone one day feel as good as music has made me felt.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Jc: Entertaining. Mike: The chorus is definitely one to shout along to, I’ve seen crowds familiar with the track really get into to this one.
Brian: Probably tripping as hell, astral projection is cool hahaha
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Mike: It wouldn’t be a full representation of Lonescar. The sound is multifaceted at this point, so I think this track is good for representing a handful of the sound we have rather than all of it.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Mike: We worked with a great designer to get together a cool lyric video for this one. It was our first time pushing one of those out and I was excited to see the reaction. So far it’s been good with live shows since now fans are able to sing along with the words haha.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
Mike: I think we make the music that we want to hear. We’re all fans of the extreme genres, whether it be death metal or blackened thrash metal core or whatever. We listen to so much more outside of that but are rooted in metal. When a new song is wrapped up and we debut it to a crowd, it’s an awesome feeling to see people digging what we created because we put our heart and soul into that music.
