Check out this amazing interview we did with Jo Potter about the new single “Saved.” This single has gained a lot of attention on Youtube and looking to spread over the word.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I chose the song “Saved” as the single as I felt it was the best representation of the musician and songwriter I have become.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
“Saved” is not only the single, but also the title of the album. From a musician’s point of view, I would hope that it exemplifies the artistry of the album. It is what I would classify as a “songwriter’s album” and everyone who helped create it is also a songwriter as well.
What was the writing process for the song?
Not many people know this, but I hear melodies in other songs. I was listening to “Faithful” by Meshell Ndegeocello. It was such a powerful song and moved me so much that I wrote “Saved” in response.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
It’s about knowing how much love can mean to someone and how it can give them strength to become who they want to be.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
This song is difficult not to emote while singing. It’s something that drives me from my inner core and I believe I am able to reflect this when I perform.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Not necessarily. This song is from my second album – which I’ve classified as a Singer/Songwriter album. This is very different style from my first with is more pop rock/Hot AC, and also different from the music I’m currently writing for the next album.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
The video was shot in New York. The concept of the video was about having a view into my daily life alone – and not only wanting to save someone, but for them to save me back.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
There are times when I utilize music to work through my own emotions or situations, but I’m also able to channel this when I want to write about a topic that I’m not feeling. The main motivation is to write about the basic most fundamental things in life that we all feel and experience – love, pain, joy, indecision, fun, etc. This is what I love to do as it allows for people to connect with me and for me to connect with them.
