The Black Drums have released a remarkable single, this should be something to get the fans going. I believe that this band should be on their way with the correct marketing and fans really getting behind them and sharing their music. Check out some of the reasons why they selected this song as their single.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
Michael Polzer: We chose the song ‘Inadequacies’ because we have a variety of styles of music which we are influenced by, hence our songs do feature a lot diversity and we feel like this is best reflected by the selected song. Plus it is one of our favorites to perform live and we just released a lyric video for it.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
Michael Polzer: The selected song forms a perfect bridge between the 2nd and 4th song, because those two are completely different. ‘Inadequacies’ catches up from where the song ‘Falling’ (2nd) left off and it perfectly manages to lead up to where ‘Strange Times’ begins.
What was the writing process for the song?
Alex Pipam: The song has been built around the chorus melody. This melody suddenly came to my mind and I immediately wrote it down with my acoustic guitar, for the most part, that’s how the majority of our songs are created. The rest of the song was easy to come up with, because in my eyes it was the logical consequence considering the chorus. The lyrics were the last part that had to fit the puzzle which was not that easy, especially the verses, because I wanted to shift the emphasis, so that the music becomes even groovier.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
Alex Pipam: The lyrics do have an autobiographical background, but they don’t apply to me 100%. The lyrics refer to a situation everybody can relate to, to stand in one’s own light. The “You” which the text often refers to is your own conscience. To fully understand the lyrics you have to know that the person referred to switches after the first verse, that makes the song not only self-reflective but it also embeds a person standing close to you. It’s up for everyone on his/her own to decide who that person is. With that way I tried to add some depth of emotion. I just wanted to show how you can stand in someone’s, or your own way with a mental barrier.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Michael Polzer: That is actually a question that is not that easy to answer, because we never experienced a performance of this song from the audience’s point of view, but if I had to force myself into that position I’d say this song is as fun to listen to as it is to play, because it has a very catchy verse and a chorus with a haunting melody, that almost forces the listener to at least move his feet. We also often choose to play this song as our second to last when we perform it live, because it suits perfect for introducing the whole squad.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Alex Pipam: Personally I think it’s hard to summarize a band just by one song. Our music has depth to it and you will not be able to summarize by just a single song. I would rather say this song is able to give you a view of the tip of the iceberg.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Michael Polzer: We just released a lyric video for this song, it’s also not just the standard lyric video you know, it’s way more than that but why don’t you convince yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaLpiNYc3IU
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
Alex Pipam: Right now our main goal is to just get our music out there, we love to perform live and to see that the audience deeply enjoys what they hear. In the near feature we plan to step up our live performances and to conquer the national and international stages.
