@imartinstrecker Disco Extravaganza

Friday August 4th Martin Strecker will release his ‘Disco Extravaganza’ album that takes a chance to bring the public something new. Danish born Martin Strecker was part of numerous theatrical and music projects up through the 1990’s.
He attended acting school while at the same time having a successful singing-gig at a theatre-café in down town Copenhagen, Denmark that would bring him to his first ever recording session in 1996…

After touring Central Europe with The BDB in 2002-2003 & 2005 he became a devoted School teacher and award winning radio host.
In 2014 Martin Strecker returned to the recording studio, this time in historical surroundings in Istanbul, Turkey.
Check out our interview about this upcoming album and make sure to save the date and pick it UP!
Why did you choose the name ‘Disco Extravaganza’ for your new album?
I chose the name ‘Disco Extravaganza’ because the album is kind of a concept of a 70’s, 80’s and 90’s pop disco sound. But there where other suggestions to keep it in that atmosphere. One was pure and simple ‘Martin’ – as to keep it in that 80’s feeling where artists would release a self-titled album like Kylie, Madonna, Whitney, Sandra and so on. I mean I get that idea, but it didn’t appeal to me. I guess I like the Extravaganza more.
How does this Album relate to other music projects you have made over the years?
Actually in 1998 I recorded a single called Disco Diva, so in that perspective it fits in really well. otherwise ‘Disco Extravaganza’ is more my personal reference to what music i like – and I love Disco and pop music, with a bit of ambiance to it. And I think I have achieved this with this album.
What was the writing process for the album?
The process for this album has been rather long, but more in the matter of the production. Finding the sound that was in my head and also finding people who could help me realize it. I mean, growing up I was, and still am, a huge glam-punk and disco-pop fan. So this time around, I wanted to make the sound as I like it. The song ‘Sweet Memories’ was written by myself and a friend and we actually wrote it back in I think 1990 or 1991. When She heard that I was back in the studio working on a new project, she send me a short message saying: ‘please, could you record our song, if not for the album then just for me’. We then agreed to release it but as a money-raising track for Syrian Child Refugees. I mean, these kids. Some of them have never tried to be ‘kids’. I currently live in Istanbul, Turkey, and here I meet Syrian child refugees on a daily basis. Some struggling with their families to raise money just to get by. Some of these kids were born while their parents were escaping the horrors happening in Syria these years, and others have seen the horrors and now hustling through life. So we decided to donate €0.5 from each sold single song and $1 from each sold whole album to this cause. The money will be administrated by The Danish National Refugee Organisation.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
All the lyrics on my album ‘Disco Extravaganza’ have some kind of meaning, but I will also have to be fair and say this is a ‘typical pop album’ so I am not counting on any noble literature price to arrive. That said, though the lyrics are banal, they are also personal and each of them tells a story.
‘Sweet Memories’ is the one with the more in depth lyrics. But ‘A Life you won’t be in anymore’ is a song that really is about the break-up of a long term relationship… but listening to it, I also hear myself talking to people close to me whom have died – to early. But again, It’s pop music, it’s good pop-music.
Could you say there are some artists you feel inspired by and maybe would have liked to have collaborated with on this album?
There are some singers in my life I would love to work with. My first and foremost is my biggest idol, mr. Adam Ant, the avtual inventor of glam. He has this unique talent to re-invent himself and constantly renew his style, though always staying true to what he built up of various styles and genres. The 2nd one is a Tyrkish pop-star Sila, she actually also records where I am recording, her voice is amazing – so let’s see, maybe the future will bring something.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I hope my fans will never summarize me by just one song. I think I have more to offer than that. But I think my fans could summarize me with the album ‘Disco Extravaganza’ because it’s the sound that I like.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Yes, Indeed, there’s a video planned to be shot for one of the ‘Disco Extravaganza’ tracks. We start shooting in September, and then let’s see.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
Oh that’s really simple: I love music
