New Gospel Artist Marquis Cook releases new single “Far” from his new album. Check out his process in making this amazing new song.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I selected “Far” as my first single because it was an honest reflection of my human experience. There are times when there is so much going on in my life and I just want to be away from it all. I also find so much joy and peace in the presence of God. “Far” is very relatable and I hope that it will resonate with anyone who listens to it.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
This album is uplifting and inspirational, showing how God’s love and grace brings us to a place of redemption and freedom. “Far” fits perfectly into the wonderful story of this project.
What was the writing process for the song?
The song was written by my aunt and artist, Stephanie Cooke. One day during a conversation, she told me she wrote a song that she thought was great for me. She sang it and I instantly fell in love with the lyrics and melody.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The lyrics to “Far” are extremely personal for me. I get so busy with work, church, family and other things in my life and sometimes “I really got to break away, from all the clutter and the strain”. We have all been there. The lyrics to this song are so transparent. “There’s nothing like being with you” is a true testament of how I feel about being in the presence of God. Nothing else matters. I’m at peace. I’m content. I’m happy.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Whoever sees me performing this song will experience an honest presentation that is pure, heartfelt, and vulnerable. I want the audience to enjoy themselves, and to impact their hearts during my performance.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I think that “Far” gives my fans insight into the passion behind what I do, my hope and trust in God, and how important it is for me as an artist to deliver songs that will inspire and encourage them.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Yes, we are planning to shoot a video for the song in the near future. It’s all really exciting for me! Once we do, I’ll have to follow up and give you all of the details.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
The motivation behind my music is the love and hope that I’ve found in God. I’ve endured very good and very bad times, and through it all God and music have always been there for me. This inspires me to write and produce material that invites people into my journey, and allow God and music to motivate them, and do for them what it has done for me.
