Nashville’s Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes releases second single and music video from their acclaimed sophomore record, Kid Tiger, “Phantoms,” announce accompanying tour.
At their shows across the country, Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes noticed that one song kept getting the crowd particularly excited. “Audiences seem to identify with the catchy rhythms in the chorus of ‘Phantoms,’” says guitarist Timon Lance. “We get to the gritty and bouncing chorus, there’s an obvious, visual change in the way people are moving and dancing to the song at the shows.”
“Phantoms,” the second single from Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes’ sophomore album, Kid Tiger, hit retail outlets on September 3rd, complete with a remix of the fan favorite track from another familiar Nashvillian, Kyle Andrews. Of the remix, lead singer Daniel Ellsworth says, “I’ve been a fan of Kyle’s for years. His music is incredible and his production skills are unmatched. He’s some sort of pop music super genius. It was a no-brainer for us to ask Kyle to do a ‘Phantoms’ remix. I wanted to see what his take on the song would be. I expected it to be good, but I was blown away.”
The accompanying video for the song premiered by Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco, was shot over two swelteringly hot days in an abandoned warehouse in the dead of the Tennessee summer heat. “We shot the video in Nashville with the super-talented Tim Duggan,” says lead singer Daniel Ellsworth. “When he suggested that we make part of the video a reverse slow motion food fight, we immediately said yes and I knew that we would be friends forever.”
Ellsworth continues, “Aside from being the best food-fighters I’ve ever seen, the girls in the video are some of the most talented people we know. Mindy works for Third Man Records and is an all-star producer and engineer. Polly is an amazing songwriter/vocalist and plays under the name Polly Punkneck.”
In addition to a single and remix, the band is gearing up to launch a fall tour. It includes stops at Nashville’s Live On The Green Music Festival, CMJ Music
Marathon in New York City, and some of their favorite Midwestern and Eastern towns. “It’s when we’re playing every night that we have the most fun and play our best shows,” says drummer Joel Wren. “Plus, we all really miss random 24-hour diners when we’re at home.”
