Check out this great interview with Ivy Blue about their new record “A Picture of The World”
Why did you select this song as your current single?
We chose this song to be the first single of Present Shapes because A Picture of The World seems really unusual. It feels like the end of the last phase Ivy Blue has had (the 19 era) and moving into a new horizon that is unique from anything we’ve done. It’s more intimate and stripped back to allow for new ideas and old adventures to mingle. We like that.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
It relates because this is the beginning of the concept this particular album has. Once you’ve entered your own picture of the world, the album is like a dream. It’s structured enough that it makes sense but it also allows for the listener to interpret their own ideas and meanings of what the song is about.
What was the writing process for the song?
Well, we start with ideas that we’ve all brought in and if there’s an idea that we like and it sticks we jut keep finding new ways to tell the story that the songs wants to tell. And when the story feels like it’s come to a natural close and there’s nothing more to say, that’s when you know it’s done.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
To me, the lyrics on this song are an observation. And that’s the beauty of it. It’s your perspective, but this perspective can be seen through other eyes and lenses too. Compared to what Ivy Blue has written about in the past, it’s a thing of beauty and mystery.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
It will be a little bit different from the album version, but it will still strike you in the same raw way. That’s all I can say for now.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Our fans know that we try different things and that we over time have evolved with our music and that doesn’t change. Will Ivy Blue fans connect with this song? I hope so.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Yes, a video for A Picture Of The World is planned, but no details are in place. Once we’ve got all that together then we’ll tell you a bit more.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
We just want to make music. That’s really the motivation. We love what we do and we love trying all different kinds of music and that’s our motivation. If we weren’t enjoying it then we’d be finished. And it doesn’t always have to be much. It just has to be enough.
