Heard Salme and Mikey P on musicsubmit and we really had to reach out for this banging summer anthem.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
“1-2-3-4-5” has that summer anthem feel to it and when picking a single in January when it’s cold and dark here on the east coast it was an obvious choice you know, get a little sunshine going in mid winter…J On top of that it has a super catchy chorus and it’s fun and tongue in cheek like a good single should be in my book.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
The whole album is about good vibes, having fun and just enjoying life “1-2-3-4-5” fits right in. The whole album is full of funky breaks, cool guitars and cherry flavored hooks; it’s fun, colorful and irresistibly naughty.
The album is titled “Elevation Junkie” and comes out June 10th on Kontainer Music – 12 songs that should get your feet moving and your blood pumping.
What was the writing process for the song?
The idea was to write a summer anthem. I wanted something with more of a groove and a bit of a Latin feel so I slowed down the bpm a bit compared to my usual high energy stuff and I worked in a retro Latin horn section. I literally went through hundreds of samples to build the horn hook line, cut up and tweaked and filtered them until I had what I needed. When the track was done the chorus hook came easily. I instantly thought of Mikey for the verses”(that is Mikey P from the group Dacav). “He’s got this infectious fun vibe which is perfect for 1-2-3-4-5”. We got together one afternoon in my studio here in New Jersey and put it all together.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
This song is meant to be fun, nothing more. It’s about drinking beer with your friends on the beach and checking out girls in bikinis, feeling the sand between your toes and just chilling, no worries in the world ‘cause it’s summertime All of it with a tongue in cheek element to it, of course.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Hopefully it would be festive, fun and uplifting in an effortless kind of way.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
I think so. “1-2-3-4-5” is poppy and accessible while having a bit of that electronic underground feel to it like most of my music and it also has that fun tongue in cheek attitude that I have become known for (my mother is very proud…J)
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
We are talking about making a video if we can work out the scheduling. Mikey P has an album coming out in a few months and I am gearing up for promo for my album so we’ll see if we can make it happen. Would be fun for sure and I can only imagine what craziness we could stir up with a video for this song…
For now, we made a lyric video that’s on YouTube:
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
To me music is entertainment, an escape from the day-to day. It’s about having fun, letting loose and flaunting whatever you’ve got…hah! J
I leave it to other artists to cover social, political and other important issues, God knows they do it so much better than I ever could – Springsteen, U2, the list goes on. Kylie Minogue once said something along the lines of “my job is to entertain and make it look effortless”, that’s my goal.
